Assessment Trials on CENTURY

As part of our work into creating high-quality assessments for schools, CENTURY often conducts paid trials with schools to ensure that the assessments are as robust and reliable as possible.

Table of Contents

We have recently changed our conditions from previous assessment trials. Please ensure that you read the sections below before participating. Payments for some assessments are limited to the first 800 tests completed, so incentives are limited. Please let us know if you wish to take part, but please be prepared to complete these assessments as swiftly as possible.

Available assessment trials (UK only)

The following lists all of the assessment trials that are currently running at CENTURY. If you’d like to participate in a trial, register your interest here. Please first ensure that your school fulfils the participation criteria outlined below. Only schools that have registered and received confirmation from us will be able to claim the incentives listed.

Why are we trialling assessments?

We are confident in the quality of our assessments, but we want to ensure that they are fully robust. Our assessments are at different phases of development as explained below.

Assessment type

Reason for trial

Baseline assessments (Years 3, 4, and 7)

The questions in these assessments have been previously trialed. We are now looking to standardise these tests. Once the scores are standardised later in the year, you will be able to view the standardised results for your students.

Baseline assessments (Years 8 and 9)

GCSE readiness test (Year 10)

These assessments are still in development and thus no standardised scores will be created. The performance data and reporting will be accessible and useful for identifying strengths and weaknesses at an individual and a class level, enabling effective interventions.

Cognitive ability assessments

These are in the early stages of development. The item trials will help us determine the quality of questions included in the finalised assessment.

Conditions of participation

In order to receive the incentives above, schools will need to fulfil all of the following conditions:

  1. Register here for Baseline Assessments, or here for cognitive ability assessments
  2. Share the required data (more details in the Data Sharing section below)
  3. Provide feedback on the assessments. A short feedback form will be provided to you upon completion of the trial.

Participation criteria

As we are looking for a fair representation of schools and students from across the UK, we are currently looking for:

  • UK-based primary and secondary schools
  • Current subscribers of CENTURY
  • Ability to conduct assessments in classroom testing conditions, preferably with the full class/year group.

Unfortunately, we are not able to accommodate alternative provision schools or tuition centres for our current assessment trials, although this may change in future.

Benefits of participating

In addition to the above incentives, each academic assessment sat will produce an automatically-generated report of your students’ performances, providing meaningful and actionable data at a student, class, and school level, complementing our existing learning and data offer.

As the development of the assessments progress, we are working to improve the reporting by including standardised scores. This is already available for Year 5 and 6 Baseline Assessments, as below:

Finally, your school will play an active part in shaping the future of assessments on CENTURY!

Data sharing

If you are participating in a trial, we require a data refresh on CENTURY for school census purposes. This data is often already in the platform, but we require a refresh to update potentially out-of-date or incomplete information – this will be used to ensure the data sample of the item trial is a fair representation of student demographics. We require the following data points according to census standards:

  • Date of birth
  • Sex
  • SEN status
  • EAL status
  • Pupil Premium status

All data is handled according to our high data handling standards in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

If using Groupcall or CSV

There is a template here and we would be happy to speak to your MIS manager to facilitate this. Please share this data in a secure manner, either via a password protected file or Google drive folder link shared with assessments@century.tech.
